This product in an obviously simple way addresses the need in a dock that allows comfortable placing of the iPhone on a shelf above (when e.g. using it as alarm clock or reading a recipe in the kitchen). 
The dock also allows comfortable positioning of the iPhone 5 in either portrait or landscape position (with 3.5 mm jack in as well) and comprises audio through passages for better audio in any position of the iPhone 5.
